Q: I want to install additional mods or maps. Where can i download them and where i have to place the WD files?
A: You could download all mods from Inside Earth Intl. (all files are ZIP files). The WD files for mods or maps needs to go in this directory:
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\Yourname\earth 2160.
If the maps consists of bmp and lnd files, create a directory Levels in the same path and place the files there.
Q: When you launch steam and get the message:

How could it be solved?
A: This problem could be caused from Norton Antivirus 2006!
To solve this Problem you have to disable the following two options of NAV2006:
1. You have to disable the homepage protection completely!
Click OPTIONS->NORTON ANTIVIRUS
Select homepage protection in the left menu and turn it off.
2. Go to the tab miscellaneous and deactivate the protection for your Symentec product.
Q: Earth 2160 crashes back to the desktop with the following message:

Earth2160_SSE.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Clicking on the more details option shows a dialog box with the following info:
AppName: earth2160_sse.exe AppVer: 1.3.7.0 ModName: vsfilter.dll
ModVer: 1.0.1.3 Offset: 00082123

How could it be solved?
A: What couses a problem is a dll named vsfilter.dll
(DirectShow subtiles filter) This dll need to be REMOVED totaly from a system to get E2160 to work!
HINT:
When you bring up the "Search my computer" MAKE SURE you go into advanced option, and have it search system folders, hidden folders and all sub folders. This way it will search the entire drive, and not just a few selected spots!
We dont know what weird interaction is happening but this is 100% replicable.
Q: When you launch the game from steam and get the message:

What can i do?
A: This message means that you have:
1. a invalid steam ticket.
In this case log your steam account out, restart the steam client and login again. if this doesn't help contact the Steam support
or
2. your network connection is down/unworkable.
In this case contact your system administrator ;-)
or
3. you cannot connect to backend server.
In this case check that the ports 6668 TCP/IP and ports 27015, 27031, 27039 UDP are configered right on your firewall/router.
Q: If you get the message above with the
Error code:
WinSock exception (Timeout while trying to connect to back-end server)
How to fix it?
A: If you have an anti-virus program installed, deactivate it. Active virus scanners can negatively affect an installation procedure.
If this doesn't help try this Winsock fix for XP.
Q: You encountering a blue screen or crash when attempting to load Earth 2160 how can I prevent this from occurring?
A: If you are encountering crashes or errors which display a blue screen when attempting to load Red Earth 2160, it is recommended that you use the Launch Options feature to start Steam in Beta mode (a patch for this issue is currently available through Steam Beta). Please follow the instructions below:
- Close and exit the Steam client application
- Right-click on the icon for your Steam launch shortcut
- Go to Properties
- Add -clientbeta fs to the Target field at the end of the line.
- Click Apply and then click OK
- Launch Steam and run your game
